Why do I have pain at the front of my shoulder?

Anterior Shoulder Pain

Pain at the front of your shoulder can be very frustrating and disabling. Only once you have had shoulder pain or weakness, do you appreciate the need for a well functioning shoulder.

Do you have trouble:

- Reaching into your back pocket

- Sleeping

- Doing up your bra

- Reaching into the backseat of your car

- Lifting grocery bags

- Hanging the washing

- Writing

Or is it a more sports specific action such as:

- Paddling

- Swimming

- Overhead throwing

- Spiking a volleyball

Shoulder pain has a huge impact on life!

The many different possibilities behind the cause of shoulder pain that you may hear may also be frustrating... bursitis, tendonopathy, rotator cuff tear, tendonitis, impingement...

The good news is, that with a thorough assessment by a Physiotherapist, the source of the problem can be identified and you don't then have to worry about all of those ugly words.

Your shoulder joint is like a golf ball on a tee. It relies very heavily on muscles to centre it on the tee. These muscles need to work synergistically to create this balance whether they be endurance or power type muscles.

Physiotherapists perform detailed assessments to analyse which structure is the source of the pain, what muscles are not being recruited correctly, and why. Sometimes it may even be your neck that is causing the pain.

The solution may be as simple as correcting a curved back from too much sitting at a computer, or it may be a guided strengthening program for a tendon. We see so many people with shoulder pain that one of the most beneficial things we can do is give you simple advice! We also like to use massage, mobilisation, dry needling, movement and postural correction, stretching and strengthening exercises.

Don't let shoulder pain stop you any longer.
